Residential building project in the country Wuppertal

In Wuppertal-Ronsdorf, the IDEE Projekt- und Entwicklungsgesellschaft mbH has built three penthouses and eight flats with 16 underground parking spaces. „With this residential area project in the countryside we have combined attractive and modern architecture with different facade elements,“ says IDEE Managing Director Hürsehit Kürekli. The solid building built conventionally with load bearing walls made of lime sand brick was given a white plaster facade. The surfaces between the windows were optically opened up by using „CREATIVE XL“ facade profiles in graphite grey from the company NATURinFORM. Furthermore, the outer walls of the three penthouses were completely covered using wood composite material from the Franconian producer. In total, 400 square metres of facade profiles were used in the Lohsiepenstrasse.

You can get quickly from the popular district with a village flair to the landscape protection area Scharpenacken, as well as to there creational area of Ronsdorfer Talsperre at the border of the historic Gelpe Valley. Despite being situated in a quiet spot, the residents have a good connection to the motorway A1 and fast track bus lines connect Ronsdorf to the lively centres of Barmenand Elberfeld. The flats were handed over to the tenants in the summer of 2018 and offer a high level of comfort with a lift and underfloor heating; the entrance areas are without steps. Highquality upper floors, as well as windows and patio window systems with plastic sheaths round off the convenient features.

Harmonic architecture at preferred sites

As a building and project developer in the area of Bergisch-Rhine, the IDEE Project and developing Group, the IDEE Projekt- und Entwicklungsgesellschaft mbH, likes to implementtheir projects in preferred areas with a harmonic and special architecture and a high living comfort for flat owners and good profits for those letting out property as an investment. Founded in the year 1999, the IDEE GmbH is general contractor for ready-touse buildings in an area of 50 kilometres around Wuppertal at a fixed price. Additionally, the company takes over tasks in projectand construction management.

Wood composite material was awarded the contract ratherthan natural larch

The penthouses‘ outer wall surfaces, as well as partial areas with grouped windows, were originally supposed to be covered with natural larch wood to insulate the facade. „In the end the buyersand architect agreed to use wood composite material from NATURinFORM for the areas planned in wood,“ explains Hürsehit Kürekli. The main reason for this, apart from the fact that it looks good, is the low amount of necessary maintenance and care. „The climatic conditions around Wuppertal wouldhardly be able to create the desired silver-grey patina,“ says the IDEE Managing Director. „Large amounts of rain and spores, little sun and a dry wind, make wooden facades often look quite unattractive. That is why we decided on graphite grey„CREATIVE XL“ facade profiles, which already have the desired look that would take quite a while to develop with pure wood. Because the flats are intended to be let out, facade care and maintenance were decisive when it came to choosing a material.“

Wooden grain with an aesthetic and natural look

A facade of wood composite material is convincing because it is weatherproof and durable. Thanks to the combination of the material with polymer, the facade profiles are extremely weatherproof and are very easy to clean – and therefore low on maintenance. „Wood composite material has always proven an ideal surface for patios or balconies,“ says Dipl.Ing. architect Ulrich Klapa of the KLAPA architect‘s office in Wuppertal. „Weexpect the same beneficial characteristics from this material for the facade,“ says Klapa, who accompanied the project in Ronsdorf throughout all stages. In places for which a wooden facade was initially planned, different materials were considered throughout the building process. „In the end we chose graphite grey „CREATIVE XL“, as the material fulfilled all we desired regarding durability and care – and is hardly any different to the look we had originally planned,“ says Klapa. This is because the high percentage of wood in the slats creates an aesthetic and natural look thanks to a patented, individual wooden grain. „TheCREATIVE XL“ consists of a solid rhombus strip in a covering measure of 99 millimetres and can be laid both horizontally orvertically. The facade profile is available in standard lengths of four and six metres, but special lengths are available on request. The outer cover made of quality wood compositematerial by NATURinFORM is used as back-ventilated cladding. When it is being fixed the rhoumbus strips are laid positively using a groove and plug connection onto an underlying wooden construction: thus creating an even surface and a closed, windproof joint, without any visible mounting.

Craftsmen convinced by the wood composite material

The wall surfaces were covered with white plaster as a thermal insulation system and the outer walls of the penthouses were completed in lime sand stone. On this, the team from carpenter and joiner company Christian Quast fixed a first layer with 8 by 10 cm squared timbers, and on top of that a second layer. Both layers were rebated, insulated, and equipped with a UV-resistant underlying film before the cladding profile was attached. The 55 year old carpenter master from Remscheid, who has led his own carpentry company since 1992 with three permanent employees, has worked for IDEE GmbH frequently in the past. „Until now I have only used profiles made of wood composite material for patios and balconies,“ says Christian Quast. Fixing the innovative material at the property in Ronsdorf was a first for him and his team. The work was easily completed, as the material is as easy to process as wood. In addition, it also looks expensive, is really low on maintenance, and highly durable, says Christian Quast.
