Roof terrace of the DEG company building in Dortmund

The new DEG Dach-Fassaden-Holz eG location was built on the former site of the Dortmund Westfalenhütte steelworks. The purchasing cooperative's most modern location opened in 2020. The wooden facade characterizes the building and underlines the company's corporate identity.

On the 100-square-meter roof terrace, which adjoins the training room on the upper floor, Natureline planks in graphite gray were used. The wood composite material was chosen for its durability, weather resistance, and ease of maintenance.

Largest umbrella location of the purchasing cooperative

The new building for DEG Dach-Fassaden-Holz eG in Dortmund was designed by Planconcept Cornelius and combines modern architecture with efficient functionality. Members and customers are welcomed at several counters, while large-screen monitors provide information about the company, manufacturers, and product innovations. Transparent glass fronts ensure visual contact and seamless communication between the offices and the back office.

Directly adjacent to the offices are spacious warehouses where wood, bricks, insulation materials, and other materials are available for pickup in large open spaces. The concept is complemented by modern social spaces for employees and a spacious training area on the upper floor. A special flat roof terrace with approximately 100 square meters, combined with a green roof, extends the space to the outside.

Outdoor area with high quality of stay

"Last summer, we were able to open the seminar room with its adjoining terrace for the first time after months of shutdown due to the coronavirus," reports Alexandra Stolz, branch manager of DEG Dortmund. "The spacious roof terrace offers a high level of comfort, to which the NaturinForm floorboards contribute significantly."

Through the deliberate choice of materials for the facade and flooring, the company's corporate identity was consistently integrated into its external image. "The word 'wood' in our company name is thus also presented in a visually attractive way," Stolz continues. The decision for the Natureline plank in graphite gray was a durable, easy-care, and aesthetically pleasing solution that underscores the company's modern approach.

Successful cooperation between DEG and NaturinForm

Natureline was installed on aluminum base profiles with stainless steel clamps. "The elevated railing construction was crucial for the substructure," explains site manager Mario Zschoche of the Dortmund-based specialist company NDW Niemeier Dach & Wand. "The railing bases had to be covered by the substructure so that the planks could be installed continuously all the way to the railing," says the civil engineer, who has worked as a construction manager in the roofing trade for more than 20 years and specializes in waterproofing. NDW subcontracted the installation of the planks to the Ennepetal-based subcontractor Grün Garten- und Landschaftsbau.

When selecting the appropriate material, the decision was made quickly by the DEG management. "We have enjoyed an excellent working relationship with NaturinForm for many years, and the company is one of our top suppliers. So what could be more natural than equipping the terrace with a series from the NaturinForm range?" says Alexandra Stolz.

Large selection of different series and colors

In close consultation with the manufacturer in Dortmund, the selection of the right series was made. "With the large selection of different series and colors, the decision was not easy. Ultimately, we settled on Natureline in graphite gray," says the branch manager. "When I look at the result today, I can only say: Everything was done right. In addition to the attractive wood look, it is above all the outstanding material-specific properties of the planks – such as easy maintenance and high slip resistance – that make them ideal for use on heavily used surfaces."

The natural line: Natural wood grain and pleasant surface structure

NaturinForm's uniquely innovative manufacturing process guarantees a high-quality, solid plank made of wood composite material that is completely dyed throughout, striking with its distinctive, multicolored wood grain and pleasant surface texture. Natureline draws inspiration from nature with its colors. These include warm wood tones such as oak, amber, and chestnut brown, as well as cool tones such as graphite and basalt gray. The interplay of two colors creates a wood grain with an organic, multicolored gradient.

The high-quality wood composite material is made from 70 percent domestic wood from sustainable, PEFC-certified forestry. A single-variety polymer is added to the material, making the planks resistant to moisture, humidity, and other weather and environmental influences. The result is a long service life (durability class 1), exceptionally good slip resistance (R12 on both sides), and low maintenance. To achieve the slip-resistant properties, the surface is brushed and finished at the factory.

Sustainability at NaturinForm

NaturinForm produces its floorboards in a strictly ecological manner. No trees are felled in the production process; instead, only wood fibers from certified sawmills are used. The wood is PEFC-certified and comes from ecologically managed, domestic forests. Furthermore, no environmentally harmful chemicals are used, and no fungicides or pesticides are used.

The decking boards are 100% recyclable and, after being tested for this purpose, can be returned to the factory in Redwitz, where they are processed and returned to the production process.

All NaturinForm floorboards and façade profiles are subject to Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) prepared in accordance with international standards. All products are subject to continuous quality controls and stress tests to ensure consistently first-class wood-based material quality. The company offers a five-year warranty on its products.
