Pool terrace in Tyrol, Austria
South of Lake Achensee, between the foothills of the Rofan and Karwendel mountains, lies the Tyrolean town of Jenbach. Those who live here where others spend their holidays are among the lucky ones – like the Bertignol-Spörr family. On the outskirts of the market town, they have fulfilled their dream of owning their own home, amidst orchards with views of the Larchkopf, Reiterkopf, and Durrajoch mountains. The client, himself a civil engineer, realized almost the entire construction project himself, from planning to construction supervision, and partially even the execution. He also oversaw every detail in the planning and execution of the outdoor area. The result is a 5-star terrace consisting of a natural pool, water lily pond, Jacuzzi, and outdoor sauna with shower. Wood composite materials were used for the flooring and the cladding of the property walls in a uniform oak brown from NaturinForm.

The Bertignol-Spörr family's new home blends inconspicuously with its surroundings. "Our goal was to build a house with linear, clear structures, yet still maintain a cozy feel," says René Spörr, explaining the basic idea. The materials used therefore consistently combine tradition with modernity: for example, the ceilings were made of exposed concrete, while the wall and ceiling paneling was made of reclaimed wood; the interior walls were painted a cool white, and the floors contrasted with a warm-toned natural oak flooring. This same combination of materials was to be continued outdoors. Consequently, in addition to gray, large-format porcelain stoneware tiles, the building owners opted for oak-brown floorboards and wood composite profiles from NaturinForm for a color and material contrast for the borders of the water and sunbathing areas, as well as for the wall cladding surrounding the property. The result: contrasting materials in an exciting dialogue – the warm wood tone meets the cool gray of the floor tiles. “The successful combination of these materials creates a homely feeling despite the overall modern design,” says the client, who is convinced of his concept and its implementation.
Civil engineer René Spörr is self-employed with an engineering firm specializing in building construction, structural engineering, and construction supervision. "I offer a complete package for building owners—everything from a single source, so my clients receive impeccable quality. That's why I handled the planning and construction supervision of our single-family home myself. Here, everything was done by hand."
Continuous pool surround in custom size
Hubert Schneider, a trained carpenter and construction engineer, assisted the building family in planning the wall and floor surfaces to be constructed with wood composite materials. "The brief was to create an eye-catcher with charm – technically sophisticated and multifunctional. Ideally, a product that combined floor and facade or wall design," recalls Schneider. The decision-making process was characterized by preliminary technical discussions, consultations, and sample assessments. Although ceramic tiles had originally been preferred for the entire area, the final choice fell on Natureline for the floors and pool surrounds, as well as Creative for the cladding of the property wall, both in oak brown. Here, the durable and easy-care composition of the material was a winning combination. Further arguments were the color consistency of the wall and floor, as well as the option of creating the pool surround "from a single piece." The barefoot-friendly and slip-resistant surface structure, as well as the attractive color of the planks, were also convincing. "Part of our design concept was to visually distinguish the pool and water lily pond from the rest of the terrace," says René Spörr. "We achieved this perfectly with the chosen border." It was also possible to construct the long side of the pool with a continuous plank in a custom size; this eliminates any joints along the entire length.
Wall and floor surfaces laid by the client himself
The first step was to work on the border of the water lily pond, which serves to purify the water in the adjacent natural pool. Both the pool and the water lily pond were constructed from reinforced concrete, with the sunbathing area between them consisting of a custom-made steel substructure. René Spörr then built the cover for this area together with his father, Robert Spörr. One challenge here was to create a relaxing area with integrated storage space for the pool cover. The next step was the pool border. The corner formations with miter cuts posed particular challenges for the craftsmanship of father and son. Another adjacent area was created that connects the outdoor sauna and shower with the pool area. XL, medium, and small swivel feet were used to level the uneven ground before the decking was laid. The reinforced concrete property wall along the terrace serves as a visual and noise barrier from the parallel road. To conceal the concrete wall and create a warm surface that complements the floor, the color oak brown was chosen here as well. The client installed Creative horizontally on wooden battens on these surfaces, and a photovoltaic system was installed on the street-facing side.
Natureline: Predestined for “water-near” areas
With their new terrace, the family created an exclusive retreat centered around the water lily pond and natural pool. They sought a floor that would be robust and durable in watery surroundings. It also needed to be maintenance-free and easy to clean. NaturinForm's Natureline wood-based floorboards met these requirements with flying colors. They were laid in a seamless, seamless manner with the wall design, creating a visual boundary between the water zone and the rest of the terrace, while also framing the water features. Resistant to moisture, humidity, and other weather and environmental influences, they promise a long service life (Durability Class 1) without compromising on their beauty and functionality. The flooring offers high slip resistance (R 12) on both sides and is splinter-free, making it safe and comfortable to walk on barefoot.
Creative: Facade system with an attractive wood look
Creative is a facade system with an attractive wood look. During installation, the rhombus strips are laid on a wooden substructure using a tongue and groove connection. The staple set from the accessories range is available for concealed installation to secure the strips to the wooden battens. With three different coverage sizes, the design possibilities are endless. The solid rhombus strips "small" with a coverage size of 66 millimeters, "xl" with 99 millimeters, and "xxl" with a width of 148 millimeters can be installed both horizontally and vertically. A combination of both sizes also opens up design possibilities for interesting facade designs. The high-quality profiles are available in standard lengths of four and six meters; custom lengths are also possible upon request. With their individual wood grain and natural color gradient, they are offered in graphite gray, oak, amber, and chestnut brown. A light brushing gives the surface structure an elegant appearance. When professionally installed, Creative protects the exterior wall structure safely and economically from the elements and damage. NaturinForm's extensive product range also includes easy-to-install stainless steel corners, which create visually clean and elegant transitions to the skirting board. Corner construction made of stainless steel strips provides impact-resistant protection and also saves material (approximately 5 cm per strip).
All NaturinForm floorboards and façade profiles are subject to Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) prepared in accordance with international standards. All products are subjected to continuous quality controls and stress tests to ensure consistently flawless and first-class wood-based material quality. The company offers a five-year warranty on its products.
