The client wanted a natural retreat for the approximately 170 square meter open space between his two houses, one that would be more enjoyable than chores. The swimming pond and terrace were conceived as a unified outdoor space, featuring water on the one hand and wood-based flooring on the other. When choosing the materials, it was clear that they were looking for a floor that would be robust and durable in a water environment, particularly non-slip and comfortable to walk on barefoot. It also needed to be maintenance-free and easy to clean. These requirements were fully met by the "Nature Line" wood-based flooring from NATURinFORM.

The spacious swimming pond complex is the central focal point of the approximately 1,000 square meter property. While the 10 by 4.80 meter usable area is designed as a classic rectangular pool, the treatment area features round shapes and additional natural stones of various sizes, with plants growing naturally between them. To demarcate the swimming and regeneration areas and, as it were, frame the square pool shape, wood-based planks were laid underwater, similar to the edge design.

Durable, maintenance-free and easy to clean

The terraces and walkways surrounding the waterscape offer space for relaxing, celebrating, and playing. A natural wood look was just one of the criteria when choosing the right flooring. "First and foremost, we were looking for a floor that would be robust and durable in a water environment. It was important to us that it be non-slip and comfortable to walk on barefoot. It also had to be durable, maintenance-free, and easy to clean," the client explains his demanding requirements. When he saw the NATURLINE from NATURinFORM, the decision was quick: Spanning a total of 46 square meters, the durable wood-based floorboards in the "NATURLINE Amber Brown" design harmoniously complement the two adjacent residential buildings.

The high-quality wood-based material consists of 70 percent local wood and sustainable, PEFC-certified forestry, and 30 percent pure polymer. This ensures that the planks meet a consistently high quality standard, making them ideal for heavily used outdoor spaces such as swimming ponds. Completely resistant to moisture, humidity, and other weather and environmental influences, they offer a long service life (Durability Class 1) without compromising on beauty and functionality. Even as "underwater planks" in ponds, they impress with their stability and robustness as a superior composite material. The surface has very good slip resistance (R 12) and is splinter-free, making it safe and comfortable to walk on barefoot. To maintain this durable material, it is sufficient to regularly remove leaves, dirt, and moss from walkways and pool surrounds.

Natural protection

To achieve the barefoot-friendly and slip-resistant properties of the decking, the surface is roughened and refined by brushing at the factory. This allows the wood-based decking to behave in its smallest particles – the exposed wood fibers on the surface – similarly to the natural behavior. Under the influence of weathering, the wood structures still exposed on the surface transform into cellulose. This optical color change is completed after approximately six months with the formation of a patina. This elegant cellulose patina, in turn, provides natural protection and additional UV stabilization of the material.
